Social Events

AAUW San Juan is a social group!  We love our parties and we love to share them with guests and non-members! Usually, a member will offer her house as a location for the party and the guests will all bring food (sometimes according to a plan – other times pure potluck!)  If we charge for the party, the cost is usually reasonable and covers beverages and paper goods. Parties that are designated as fund-raising may have a slightly higher charge in the hope of generating a surplus that can supplement the branch’s budget.

At the end of the summer, we start our season with a party – this year, we celebrated a Potluck Beach Picnic over Labor Day Weekend.  Here are some of the pictures from that event.

We always celebrate the beginning of the holiday season in Puerto Rico, with a Holiday party in Early-mid December.

In April, we will have a “Un-Happy Hour” party to commemorate Equal Pay Day (the day of the year when women finally earn the same amount that men earned in the previous calendar year…

And in May, our final meeting of the year, is another potluck dinner that accompanies our elections and annual meeting.

This program year, 2011-2012, we are trying to schedule additional social events each month.  These can be luncheons, museum trips, gallery trips, plays, TGIF’s – whatever brilliant idea we come up with!  We are looking to form a social committee.  Please contact Nayda Cumpiano if you want to be involved or if you would like to be a hostess.
